Food Inc. Movie
One of the farmers interviewed said that a person who treats animals like things that can be manipulated with hormones and unatural feeding and growth processes will probably not care if they are treating the individuals eating that meat with the same disregard.
A union coordinator stated that companies did not care about the discomfort of the animal because they would not be living long. In the same way, they did not care about the worker because they could be fired at any moment and easily replaced or exploited. Workers are preforming the same task over and over, and are getting injuries and infections. They are literally human machines.
In Upton's Sinclair, The Jungle, the worker was being exploited and the meat tainted. After the book was published, things soon got much better, but they later declined due to mass production and huge companies.
Not only is this mass production hurting health, it is hurting the economy of not just local businesses, but international farmers! Cheap American products are shipped out and are monopolizing foreign sales in their own country!
When we think we are buying cheap food, it is actually expensive. It is costly to our healthy, the economy, and the environment.
Corporation isn't bad, it just has to be strategically conquered and run by organic food producers and an ideal of sustainability. Sometimes, selling to big companies is the only way that organic companies can stay alive, and that the poor can afford and find these foods.
How is E-coli produced? Animals stand all day eating corn, are never moved, stand and live in their own feces, which is easily spread to other livestock. Corn is mass produced and fed to animals living in contained spaces, and waste products are flushed all at once into lakes and rivers. THIS IS NOT NATURAL PEOPLE! You wanna know natural farming? The cow grazes in a pasture, the cow fertilizes the land with its feces, the herd moves to another plot of land, and the grass grows again. IT IS SELF SUSTAINING! Mechanization is not evolution, we are devolving!
Often it seems that both producers and consumers are desensitized to production ideas they once thought unexceptable. People need to become aware again.
